Shopping: A New Phenomenon in Regional Development, by Jiří Vaníček & Renata Klufová

In the supermarkets, hypermarkets, and discount shops of the town of Tábor, a far reaching research of the shopping behaviour of customers was carried out in 2003, mainly focused on the accessibility of such shops, the frequency the customers visit them, and the means of transport they use. The results have shown the real importance of shopping from the viewpoint of the regional development of the location. Changes in people's shopping behaviour seem to heavily influence the organization of urban transport.

    Car-free Housing, by Stanislav Kutáček

West of the border of our country, more and more projects of residential neighbourhoods of no car transportation were appearing in the last decade. That is a reaction to the growing demand of people of environmental thinking who have decided not to own a car and live as less affected as possible by the negative impacts of today's car−crowded world. The article brings a brief notion of the history and the basic principles of such projects. Residential units of no car admittance is one possible solution to unsustainable transportation systems, mainly in urban agglomerations.

  • OBOROVÉ KONCEPCE A KRAJINA

Specialist Concepts and the Landscape, by Vladimír Mackovič

This article was a contribution to the October 2003 Physical Planning and Spatial Development Association seminar in Jihlava focused on physical planning on the regional level (with more information on the seminar to be found in UPSD 6/2003). The author deals with the issues of specialist concepts influencing the planning and creation of the landscape. Rather unconventionally, the article unites and compares distant specialist fields, such as agriculture and forestry on one hand, and tourism on the other. A systematic approach is stressed, describing the concepts of various specializations in the last decade.
