Czech Republic’s Concept of Housing for the period before 2020 was approved by the Czech government on 13th July 2011. Decree 524 of that day entrusts relevant ministers with the fulfilment of tasks contained in this Concept.

The Czech Ministry for Regional Development is a state administration body whose competence includes the policy of housing. Within this competence, the Ministry’s Department of Housing Policy assigned a task called Monitoring of Municipal Housing to the Institute for Spatial Development in the year 2000 for the first time. Since then the assignment has been performed annually, documenting continuous developments in the municipal housing stock. Questionnaire survey is the method used to collect the necessary data. The results of the assignment serve as one of the sources for the Ministry’s analytic and conceptual work.

This article describes some problems associated with two current phenomena of holiday housing. One of them is the acquiring of suite apartments, which first appeared in the Czech Republic in late 1990’s. The other is timesharing, which means the purchase of a share of time in holiday premises. Both of these forms of holiday housing have their advantages and disadvantages. This article attempts to compare their negative and positive aspects.

This contribution inquires into strategic planning of regional development at the level of Regions in the Czech Republic. The aim of the article is to explore and compare the approaches of Czech regional authorities to questions of intra-regional disparities, as based on information contained in the basic strategic documents of these Regions, and highlight some facts and contexts related to these questions. Similarly to other aspects of the strategic planning of regional development in the Czech Republic, the results of the analysis show that there is considerable diversity in these issues.

River spas are traditional in many European and American cities, such as Berlin, Vienna, New York and other capitals. In crowded city centres they offer visitors the opportunity to relax in direct contact with the river. Floating installations do not spoil waterfronts with new buildings: they are mobile and can be adapted to changing demands of usage. They complement the urban structure in respect to the existing context.
